Walka Water Works is a National Trust listed complex featuring a water pumphouse with striking chimney and ornate brickwork and is one of the largest and most intact 19th Century industrial complexes in the Hunter Valley. Walka Water Works, as well as being a popular picnic and recreation area in the Maitland district, is also steeped in history that gives it a special place in the Lower Hunter's heritage.

he large lake area with over 300 species of birdlife is suitable for water sports like canoeing and sailing and walking trails surround the lake. On Saturdays and Sundays there are miniature train rides or at other times by arrangement for group bookings. Country folk music is also held on the last Sunday of the month. Site tours and ecological tours by arrangement.

Powered and non powered campsites are available by booking through the caretaker on (02) 4932 0522.

Picnic and barbeque facilities are available and there is a children's playground area at the old pumping station built in 1887. The area is also available for outdoor and indoor weddings and functions and a Kiosk which is open 7 days a week.
